Counseling and Mindfulness for Grief

No one escapes the painful emotion of grief that results from inevitable loss in our lives. And there are many types of loss that occur during our lifetime: the death of a family member or close friend; the loss of a job or pet;  the end of a relationship or marriage; and the loss of purpose and meaning that can suddenly impact a person, resulting in various forms of normal depression. We also may experience a sense of grief and sadness when a disability, chronic illness, or terminal disease obstructs our customary ways of functioning and daily living. Grief is a very normal dimension of life; one that few escape.  The key factor is how we respond and cope with loss and grief. Responding with new and different strategies is a choice. Counseling and mindfulness training are very effective means for an adaptive response to grief, regardless of the type of loss you are experiencing.

For over 25 years, I have been helping clients and their families to discover healthy ways in to respond to loss, beginning initially with my work as a full-time psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, where I counseled hundreds of cancer patients. My colleagues and I worked diligently to help patients cultivate creative strategies so that they could reduce pain, cope with chemotherapy,  lead happier lives, redefine their plight, and maintain an optimistic but realistic picture for the future.

I am more than happy to talk with you on the phone, with no consultation fee, to determine together whether grief counseling makes sense at this time in your life.
